took a stab at coloring some of 's work. On the one hand this was kind of tough because my usual technique didn't work at all with shaun's style. but on the plus side, the linework is strong enough to carry the whole piece, so coloring it wound up being very fun and kind of easy. so i hope i've earned the right to do this again sometime.

the colors are really great on this, similar to the kind i've been using lately. i like the gradient on the shirt-thing, and on the pants as well. i also like the way you've added multiple colors to the skin, something that can easily get lost when doing this comic book style of work. the small amount of green in the face is a big plus. you'll learn a lot of that next semester in phyllis's class... skin tones and whatnot. you're going to do a lot of oil painting. keep up with that kind of color and she'll love you.

well firstly thank you very much. i'm glad the style i tried out is working. however, the thought of 6 hours of class with phyllis is making me feel like crying. i'm royally fucked when it comes time to painting, especially oils, and especially with phyllis' intricate-as-fuck technique. but thanks very much for the tip. i'll keep what you've said in mind

Honestly, the second half of her class is much more fun, much more relaxing. She teaches you this really cool rubout technique and then to paint. You may end up hating it... there's this one guy in my section who hates oil and is like the master of acrylic... and this year we're still getting lessons in oil. but the class will be less tense. it's more about experimenting than it is anatomy. also, she tends not to notice if you get up and take a break occassionally, she's not a tough grader, and she'll begin to praise people who may not have done as well the first half of the year for their creativity.

hmm. well you paint a much more pleasent picture. fuck, no pun intended. anyway, it certainly wouldn't hurt me to learn my around a paintbrush and i am interested in the figure, so maybe it won't be so bad. here's hoping you're right

hey, great job on this! i really love the scythe.

this has a more er, legendary (for lack of a better description) quality to it. like.... the muted colors make it almost mural-ish. awesomeness.
