Mon Apr 13, 2009, 7:29 PM
FOR REAL THIS TIME!!!

it's been a pretty long road with plenty of discouraging setbacks but the time has at last arrived. the first hardcover collection of Awakening, the comic book i illustrate is available to the world for pre-order. i've been busy busy busy for the past year working on this and everything else, and i've let my deviantart presence fade a bit more than i'd like but if anyone out there is still paying attenion, here goes:

we've put together one hell of a deal with DCBS (Discount Comic Book Service) to not only offer the book with an EXCLUSIVE PRINT signed by Alex Eckman-Lawn aka but also at the unbelievable discount of 45% off cover price!

That makes the book only $10.97!! Including the sweet sweet print!!!

And the best part? They ship internationally. All of the folks who've been asking us when/where they can get the book outside of the U.S. - this is it!! Spread your Awakening love all over the world, me scalawags.

Head on over and pre-order your copy ASAP:

Awakening Volume One at DCBS for $10.97 - includes EXCLUSIVE PRINT! - [link]

The solicitation for Awakening Volume One reads as follows:

“The once peaceful city of Park Falls has been tainted by a series of gruesome murders and missing persons. Cynthia Ford, well known as the town crazy, comes forward to speak with retired police detective Derrick Peters one January afternoon. She claims to have information about the murders, but does she hold the key to unlocking the mystery or has she truly gone insane?

To Derrick’s disbelief she utters one word:

Zombies.

Unable to ignore Cynthia’s information, though not sharing her beliefs, Derrick and others in the city explore the mystery as weeks turn to months and the death toll rises. Could Cynthia have been right? Follow the first half of Park Falls’s year-long struggle for answers here…”

Want to check out more of the book first? Head over to the Awakening section in our gallery.

About Awakening: Chapters 1 – 3 of Awakening were originally serialized and released in 2007 to rave reviews and four British Eagle Award nominations: Favourite Newcomer Writer (Nick Tapalansky), Favourite Full Colour Comic Book – American, Favourite New Comic Book, and Favourite Letterer (Thomas Mauer). Fans and critics alike enjoyed the unique take on the zombie genre, focusing on the noir mystery of a city slowly rotting from within rather than the typical mass uprising/fight for survival. Referred to as existential horror by the publisher, critics have said that it’s “The coolest and most original zombie piece since The Walking Dead,” (Broken Frontier), “The next 30 Days of Night,” (The Pullbox), and that main character Derrick Peters is “where Phillip Marlowe meets George Romero,” (Horrorview).

any help you can give us would be amazing. tell your friends, tell your enemies. lets make it happen! as always, i'm willing to promise love and devotion. anything more costs extra.

anyone care to share how they feel about the new mastodon record?

  • Mood: Wow!
  • Listening to: Mastodon - crack the skye
  • Playing: darkstalkers 3

hey man! so how'd the show go? i didn't get a chance to go this year cause i got hooked up with bluewater productions drawing a book for them. let me know.
ah, i'm sorry to hear you didn't make it, but you actually didn't miss too much. besides the debut of my hardcover of course.

but marvel and dc didn't show. in fact, there were very few publishers there. it was a smaller space than last year too. i don't know, things are looking kind of bad for next year. as usual, there were rumors that wizard world philly may not happen again.

you planning on being at any other shows coming up?
that sucks! but to be honest with you, i never really got into the philly show. but it's close and the big two are usually there so...
as far as other shows, i've got a table this year at the pittsburgh comicon. which is a first for me. you should come out. it's a great show plus stan "the man" lee is gonna be there. oww! so i'm guessing it's gonna be pretty sweet! oh, congrats on the book!
I like your gallery, nice style
